Zhiwu Li received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, the M.S. degree in Automatic Control, and the Ph.D. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, all from Xidian University, Xi’an, China, in 1989, 1992, and 1995, respectively. He has published three monographs in Springer (2009&2023) and CRC Press (2013) and 200+ publications in Automatica and IEEE Transactions. His research was cited by business giants including IBM, HP, ABB, Volvo, GE, GM, Mitsubishi, and Huawei. His current research interests include Petri net theory and application, supervisory control of discrete event systems, production scheduling and planning, and data and process mining.

This talk focuses on certain primary problems in scientific writing, which are usually overlooked by a fresh author. Logic and mathematics expressions, including the usage of notations and symbols, are recapitulated, together with an aim of improving the aesthetic sense of presentation.
